For the past ten years, the international community has been engaged at the highest level in work aimed at promoting private financing of sustainable public infrastructure on a global scale. The challenge is estimated at a financing requirement of $90 trillion over 15 years worldwide, particularly in developing countries. To meet this challenge, the objective is in particular to develop sustainable infrastructure as an asset class.
The significant technical work undertaken in multilateral bodies (UN, G20, G7, OECD, etc.) has resulted in considerable progress. For example, in 2019, the G20 Heads of State validated the G20 Principles for Quality Infrastructure Investment (QII), which serve as a common framework of reference for aligning infrastructure projects with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
